Policies and Services
Registration
To register for a library card, one must be a resident of Scott County and must provide a reference for
address verification and two proofs of identification--a picture ID and proof of permanent address. Each
patron must present his own check out card for each transaction.
Borrowers
Any resident of Scott County may use the library's services by signing an application card and agreeing to
observe the rules and regulations of the library. All patrons entitles to borrow books brom the library will be
given a barcode identification card that must be presented whenever materials are borrowed from the library.
If the card is list, a new card will be ordered upon payment of $1.00, $2.00 for the second loss, and $3.00
for third and successive losses. Library cards expire four years from the date of issuance may be
renewed.
Loan Period
Books and Periodicals
Loan period of 14 days and may be renewed once for the same period if there are no reserves. May renew
by telephone or in person at the library.
There is a limit of 10 books that one patron may borrow. Children under the age of 16 may borrow no more
than four books at a time.
Recordings
Records may be borrowed for 7 days. Children under the age of 16 may not borrow records unless
accompanied by parent or guardian who assumes responsibility for them. There is a limit of 10 records
borrowed at any one time.
Books on Tape
These are audio cassettes that may be borrowed by adult patrons for one week.
Video Cassettes
A limit of two videos may be checked out on an adult card for a 24 hour period. There is a $1.00 per day
fine for each overdue video. A $2.00 fine per video will be charged for videos returned in the book
drop.
Fines
A 10 cent per day fine is charged for overdue books, magazines, and records. Videos and audio cassettes
are a $1.00 per day overdue charge. A $2.00 fine per video and/or audio cassette will be charged for tapes
returned through the book drop.
Losses and Damages
Borrowers will be held responsible for the proper care and safe return of all books and other library
materials. A charge will be made to the patron for damage to or for failure to return library materilas.
Borrowers who have fines or assessments on their cards may not borrow other materials from the library
until charges have been paid and the card is clear.
A book drop at the Main Street entrance is for the convenience of patrons to return all library materials
except audio, video tapes, and records. They should not be dropped in the book drop becuase of
the damage to them. Loose coins for the payment of overdue fines should not be place in the book pockets
of books deposited in the book drop.
Service Information
Photo copier
The library has a self service photo copier which is available to the patron at 10 cents per sheet. For paper
size 11"x 17", there will be a 15 cent per sheet charge.
Inter-Library Loan Service
The library can obtain materials for the patron from other libraries. The patron is expected to pay postage
for mailing and also photocopying charges if necessary.
Genealogy Materials
Genealogy maerials and rare books on state and local history are available for in-library use. They do not
circulate.
Meeting Room
A meeting room is available for up to 50 persons. Call for more information.
General Services
Telephone Reference Service, Newspapers, Classroom Collections, Pay-phone, Summer Reading Program, 16mm films, Library Instruction , Video tapes, Story Hours, Microforms, Genealogy Materials, Microfilm Reader Service, Magazines, Fax Service.
PLAC (Public Library Access Card)--permits loans from other Indiana Public Libraries, $22.00 annual
fee.
